Cute Dread Headbands Part 2

Okay, I think I've officially gone overboard. I just can't help myself. So many cute suggestions for my hair. The latest came from Karen, a consultant for Lila Rose (Here's a shout out to her Web site: www.lillarose.biz/hairtoday). She turned me on to her beautiful clips and also Buff headgear on Amazon. So why did it only take me a few hours to order this one:

This evening, I ordered the Festive Poinsetta clip. Isn't it just beautiful? She recommended women with locks get the extra large and mega size clips.

Cute Dread Headbands on Etsy.com

My hair, in year two, has started to get a little hard to control. It's all over the place. So, I have decided to invest in a few cute headbands I found on ETSY.com. I didn't start out on ETSY. I tried to Google dreadlock sac, TAM, scarf, etc. I just wasn't finding what I was looking for. As cute as the crochet varieties are that I found, I really need something more sophisticated. I saw a few scarves that were okay, but not much better than what I've got now. Then I found these. Aren't they cute? The first two I found on July Bartel's shop page: http://www.etsy.com/shop/juliebartel. The other two I found by a British seller -- go figure, right? She's got the type of African prints I've been craving. In fact, her store is seididread http://www.etsy.com/shop/seididread.

Check both stores out when you get a chance.

It's My Lockversary! Year 2!

I can't believe it has been two years. When I first started, it seemed like no one really knew much about sisterlocks...or so it seemed. But now people stop me in the store or on the street and say, "Hey, love your sisterlocks!" That's refreshing. My retightenings are also longer. I went from  3 1/2 hours to 4 1/2 hours to now nearly 6 hours!!! At least my wonderful consultant comes to my home. That beats sitting behind three heads with long hair in a salon any day.

1 Year, 9 months Y'all!!!

Getting Sisterlocks was hands-down
the smartest hair decision I've ever made in my life. I feel so absolutely beautiful in them. It's an amazing feeling and every month just gets better than the previous one.

Naomi Campbell Bald Spots

Someone should reach out to her about sisterlocks. I had no idea weaves over the years could cause you to go bald.

Retightening: 19 Months

Long, thick hair is hot. I love it, but it's hot. I'm proud to have made it this far and still be login' my locs.  I saw a sister the other day with 7-year-old locs. Got a case of loc-envy. But all is well and they are looking' good!

Grey Hair Quick Color Fix

Okay, so I can't color my hair yet because my ends haven't quite sealed up. That's been driving me crazy because right at my temples my baby hair is turning grey. It's not locked, just that loose hair that's really fine and frames my head. Well, I found a quick fix. Streaks 'N Tips in Burnt Brown -- $6 at the beauty supply store. Yeah, yeah, I could be worried about it getting into the loc. But I just needed three quick pumps and that's it. Now my temple grey is gone and I spared my hair the drama of major coloring. Sure, it will be gone when I wash it. But I just feel so much better not seeing that grey!!!

June 11 Retightening: 18 months -- should I color?

You know, my hair just feels...HUGE. I mean, it's HOT outside and I've got mounds of hair for days. So, the photos above give you an idea of how much there is, how thick it is, and how long it is. That's my day look. When I get home from work and on the weekend, I'm sportin' the look below. It's just too hot, y'all!

The biggest thing on my mind right now is color. I've got the "I'm over 40 and grey hairs are poking through my dark brown hair" drama. I saw BlaqKofi's blog and she recommended Naturtint.  My hair hasn't completely locked so I really should sit tight, but I'm ancy. I've thought about that spray color stuff, but then my sister says it rubs off on your pillow at night. YUCK!

I think I'm starting to leave the bushy stage...

As I said before, my hair is looking and feeling longer. YAY! Other good news -- it's starting to hang down more and losing that BUSH look. I LOVE that. It was getting HUGE and feeling a bit unwieldy. I really like where it's going now. The photo below isn't the best, but gives you an idea.

It's getting longer...

finally! Just some fresh pics. One thing I will say, my little curls on the ends...like you see on the loc in front of my face, are starting to totally close up. Fewer and fewer boingy ends. Ah well, it's a journey. Will miss them.

Moms are so wonderful!!!

So, I ask my mom if she might have a few scarves she no longer needs. I feel the need to tame my hair a bit. She breaks out with scarves galore. Now I feel so much better. I look cute and my hair isn't in my face. Check out my new look!

Interesting Natural Hair is an Entertainment News Story...

Just happened to notice the hullabaloo over Viola Davis wearing natural hair to the Oscars. I guess I should be happy it is being celebrated and not panned. Just odd...that people would find it shocking we'd actually wear our hair...(gasp!)...natural!

Lots and lots of hair...

You know, I know I've complained in the past about people noticing how much hair I have. But I really DO have a ton of hair. I guess I have been so focused on what it will be like to have long hair, that I didn't really have a plan for long, '80s big hair. So, it's time for scarves. Just pretty, simple ones that will help me manage it a little better. Or maybe some more headbands. Think I'll pop over to etsy.com. Always cute stuff over there. Will show you once I make my purchases!

14 Months...and counting

My hair has started to calm down at the top, but it's still pretty thick. My gracious consultant weathered a snow storm to give me a re-tightening. I know she was cursing me out as it took her around 2 hours to get home -- normally takes her 45 minutes. But as my husband and I are making plans for a trip soon and I'm also going to a conference in New York, I really, REALLY needed her to help me out. I think I just lost my get out of jail free card though. Anywho...below are the latest picks after a fresh re-tightening.

My Lioness Mane...

Lately, people have been commenting about how HUGE my hair is. That's the latest. "What are you going to do with it when it gets longer..." I've been hearing that  A LOT. The answer? Love every minute of it. The kinkier and puffier it gets, the more I love it. So there! :)
